Chengdu has solid industrial facilities and a forward-looking strategic vision in the development of hydrogen energy. Sichuan province is the largest hydropower producer in China, and has inherent advantages in utilizing abundant renewable energy to produce hydrogen. Secondly, Chengdu has a number of vehicle companies including ZEV, and the automobile industry chain is relatively complete. At the same time, Chengdu aims to build the hydrogen energy industry to one of the city’s 5 main industries and accelerate constructing the whole industry chain of hydrogen.
Zhang Guoqiang, chairman of SinoHytec, said that the company will build the hydrogen and fuel cell vehicle industry chain based on the hydrogen fuel cell engine factory in Longquanyi District of Chengdu and cooperate with international R&D institutes and related companies. The company will support the commercial operation of hydrogen fuel cell vehicles and help Chengdu to create a new center for the development of hydrogen and fuel cell vehicles.
At present, hydrogen energy industry clusters including Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei, Yangtze River Delta, Pearl River Delta, Central China, and Southwest China have taken shape. Chengdu will benefit from the development of hydrogen energy and fuel cell industries by utilizing renewable energy such as hydropower and the automotive industry. It will improve the ecological construction of hydrogen energy in Sichuan Province and Southwest China.
